Also what's up ahead; we have a longer weekend this week (thursday-sunday) and during this weekend I will have a rogugh outline of the story done, my statement of intent written up, my research plan and a timeline.
Those are all necessary to be completed half way through June, but since I'm leaving for holidays earlier it's best to get these done.
That's it so far, just a little update :)
I'll keep you posted!

First post explaining the project and progress of it
Hello reader,
How you got on this blog is unimportant, the important part is what this blog is.
In 9th grade, we have to create a personal project, this could be anything (as long as it's possible)
We have a year to complete it and hand in with a bunch of stuff, this blog is the process journal for my project. A process Journal being basically a record of your progress.
In this blog I will have images, text, perhaps a webcam update about my project, but what exactly is my project?
For my Personal Project, I have decided to create something I have been wanting to create for a long time, but never got to it. A machinima.
Now let me explain to you what a machinima is;
A Machinima is a form of moviemaking, where either in-game footage or game models, sounds and environments are used. The first method (in-game footage) is usually used for creating a "how-to" video or to show how good or bad you are in a game, the second one however is used for making movies. Proper animated movies with a story, voice acting, etc, etc.
And the second one is the one I will be using.
My personal Project will be a comedy/spoof machinima, it will make fun of internet memes, spoof movies and stories, and generally have a light mood to it, the basic story without giving away too many details, is the kidnapping of a child, and the inevitable rescue of that child.
So far I have created a couple of pages with the spoofs and references to have in my machinima, things I want to include, etc.
I have also started working on a storyboard, which I will finish during the summer holidays.
When the movie is done, it will be uploaded on my youtube channel for everyone to see.
As to any details I have so far;
- I am aiming for the machinima to be ~5-8 minutes long
- The machinima is aimed at teenagers (as it contains mild violence, a bit of crude humor, and one or two naughty words)
- The machinima will be created in World of Warcraft
Right before I continue, the last bullet point might cause controversy, but when I say the movie will be created in World of Warcraft, this is what I mean
As you probably know, WoW has a huge database of creatures, different looking characters (races) loads of clothing, weaponry, a wide variety of environments and settings, etc. It basically has it all (which is why I chose it) now creating the machinima has NOTHING to do with either playing the game, or anything within the WoW game or universe.
So how does it work? There is a handy little program called WoW Modelviewer
and this program takes all the models from the game, and allows you to view them and animate them in front of a green screen.
So say I open up WoWmodelviewer, pick an elf as a character and equip him with any of the millions of clothing there are. I then add a greenscreen behind him, and choose the *dance* animation. I then film the elf dancing with a screen record program (not a real camera) I then open the saved movie of him dancing in a video editing program and remove the greenscreen having just the elf. I can now add a background, and add music. You get the idea.
And so, a machinima is a very difficult task. It's my first time trying to do one, so I'm pretty excited about the whole project.
So basically, I will be recording basic animations, adding a background, adding voice acting, and then editing it all to make it seem like a movie (trust me, it's a load of work), if you still don't understand, it's like creating any animated movie (Monsters Inc., Ice Age, etc) except you already have the designed characters, you just have to make them move the way you want to.
What else is there to say...
So yeah, I'll come here ever so often to upload a new "entry" for my journal, let you know how the project is coming along and what I've been up to regarding it.
The next step right now is to buy Windows (on the internet so it's in english) and install it on my mac (unfortunately you need windows to machinimate) and finish off the storyboard.
If you just found out about WoW Machinima and it interested you, here are some various links for you to check out
Do you speak english - a short machinimated skit originally by Simon Pegg (very funny)
The craft of war: BLIND - the most amazing machinima ever created. This because the person made all the animations and effects personally
Ulduar - another famous sub genre of the WoW machinima, song parodies. This song entitled "Ulduar" (a place in WoW) sung by Cranius and Summergale is a parody of Timbaland's song "The Way I Are"
And finally the big one
Tales of the Past III - a whole movie (88 minutes long) made entirely in WoW. I highly recommend this movie, interesting, entertaining, and the best machinima out there.
So yeah, there are some examples for you to look at.
I'll be back with progress and information soon!
